Sherkin Island has a reputation as the island of the arts
And that’s been strengthened in recent years as students have come to the island to study for a Visual Arts degree.
The BA in Visual Art gives budding artists the unique opportunity to study visual art on the West Cork Island as part of a 4-year honours degree programme delivered by DIT, the Dublin Institution of Technology. The course is delivered in association with the Sherkin Island Development Society and the West Cork Arts Centre.
The course combines a dynamic and creative education and a remarakable location by using a combination of studio practice workshops on Sherkin Island and a range of online distance education technologies and studio workshop projects.
The primary aim of the programme is to provide students with an advanced knowledge of the nature , role, and potential of art in the context of their community. It also raises students’ awareness of the possibilities that art creates for local communities.
There’s an open day for the course on the island at the community centre on 13th March 2:30-5pm. We’d love to see you there! Contact Aisling on aislingbipg@gmail.com for open day details.
