Fastnet Film Festival
Take part in the ultimate viewing experience at the Fastnet Film Festival, with 500+ short films and not a cinema in sight!
Fastnet Film Festival ask the question “What is a cinema, anyway?” and look for answers in every corner of the village of Schull and nearby Long Island.
Watch the movies from the ferryman’s bedroom, the village hall, cafés and numerous local pubs and restaurants and around Schull in a festival that features over 500 short films from over 40 countries.
The films are entered into the Fastnet film competition each year for a share in the cash prize fund of €20,000. The Festival focuses on the craft of filmmaking hosting seminars, workshops and masterclasses with industry experts on all aspects of the film industry. Fringe events include film quiz, live music, family entertainment and much more.
Fastnet Film Festival is an independent festival dedicated to bringing together established and first-time filmmakers in a forum to celebrate the short film. The element of competition is not paramount and while the prizes are significant, it’s the taking part and screening of entrants’ films in a public arena that counts.
Their commitment therefore, is to screen as many of the short films entered into the competition as is possible, by streaming them on their own intranet network to venues all over the village of Schull and Long Island.
The festival is committed to focusing on the craft of filmmaking and encouraging an exchange of ideas, aspirations and expertise among established filmmakers, young filmmakers and those who may never have picked up a camera before.
