Local historian Barry Hanley is an expert on the heritage of Bere Island and will lead a military heritage walk during Ireland’s Heritage Week 2015.
A guided walk with Barry is an excellent way to learn more about Bere Island’s military heritage. The walking tour of the east end of the West Cork island will give you fascinating insights into the military history that shaped Bere Island’s past.
The walks begins at Murphy’s Shop in Rerrin village, which is close to the landing for the pontoon ferry which departs the pontoon for the island at 10am. For details of island accommodation, see http://bereisland.net.
Heritage bus tours of the island are also available.
