Take a boat trip to explore the shores of Bantry Bay and Ellen Hutchins remarkable legacy as Ireland’s first female botanist
On the boat trip, passengers will see the shores that Ellen explored in search of seaweeds, some of which are now named after her. Experts will be on hand to talk about Ellen and her discoveries.
The trip is part of the Ellen Hutchins Festival which will commemorate the 200th anniversary of Ellen’s death, and celebrate the remarkable scientific legacy she left behind.
The captain of the boat will be Tim O’Leary (Whiddy Island Development Association).
Advance booking is required (places limited). Bookings open 1st August 2015. The boat trip will end on Whiddy and people are free to take one of the regular ferries back to Bantry, or to join the guided botanical walk in the afternoon (A great excuse to stop for lunch at The Bank House!)
