Cape Clear Island Museum, Cape Clear Island, Baltimore, Co. Cork, Ireland is open daily from June to early September each year.
Its main focus is the island’s maritime heritage, and it also explores the traditions, language, customs, and culture of island life.
Learn about boatbuilding and shipwrecks, as well as Hedge Schools, Placenames and Folklore in the small museum’s exhibitions which expertly explore the island’s archaeology and history, including the stories of it early lighthouses, telegraphs, postal and ferry Services and sailing and Fishing.
You’ll even learn about South Pole and Falkland Island adventures, as well as the contruction of the Fastnet Lighthouse!
Special arrangements can be made for groups to visit the centre outside the summer season (weather permitting) provided an advance arrangement/booking is made with Comharchumann Chléire/Cape Clear Island Co-Op.

O’Driscoll Family Genealogy
The island museum building also houses the O Driscoll Memorial Archive and exhibition panels relating to the history and heritage of the O Driscoll family worldwide.
The annual O Driscoll Clan gathering make a trip to Cape Clear Island and visits Cape Clear Museum and O Driscoll Archive where they participate in the annual O Driscoll remembrance ceremony.
