About Aoife Kane
Aoife dived into healing in the late nineties after she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. She initially fell in love with the transformational quality of the practice of yoga, and through a combination of yoga, counselling, shamanic practices and energy healing, her illness began to ease in intensity and to date she no longer suffers with it. In 2005, her journey took her to Asia & Australia and it was there that she began her discovery into who she is and stepped onto a path of connecting with her soul’s journey.

O’Driscolls from many lands are set to attend the O’Driscoll Clan Gathering on Cape Clear island, where old friends and long-lost family relations will have the chance to celebrate the O’Driscolls’ heritage
The O’Driscoll Clan Gathering has been the springboard for many to go in search of their roots. The annual programme of events includes a reception where people first get to know others in the international O’Driscoll family, a lecture on some aspect of O’Driscoll heritage, a book launch, an exhibition, story-telling and singing sessions and visits to historic sites.
Today the holding of the office of O’Driscoll Chieftain is not based on historical descent. Anyone bearing the name O’Driscoll may be raised to the office. The inauguration of the new Chieftain on the final day of the Clan Gathering is always an exciting and special occasion.
Programme
A day trip to Cape Clear Island takes place on Saturday when the Clan members have made their way by 10:30 am to Baltimore Pier to take the Cape Clear Island Ferry for the 45 minute trip to the island. On arrival, people can make their way to the museum on foot or by shuttle buses where at noon the O Driscoll Memorial Archive holds the Annual O Driscoll Remembrance Ceremony.
Details of the O Driscoll Remembrance Ceremony and more O Driscoll Events are to be found here.An O Driscoll who has previously attended a Clan Gathering is invited by the O Driscoll Memorial Archive to bring a candle from their own country to the Remembrance Ceremony. This candle is then lit in remembrance of deceased members of the worldwide O Driscoll Family. All present are invited to participate in the ceremony by stating their name and that of their country and then call the name of a deceased relative. Anyone related to an O Driscoll past or present, who is unable to attend the Remembrance Ceremony, may submit online the name of a deceased relative whose name they may wish to have called at the Remembrance Ceremony.
After visiting the museum and viewing some of the O Driscoll related exhibition material and O Driscoll Archive Collection, there will be lunches, tea, coffee etc. available at bars near the North Harbour. Visits to historic and other sites may be organised in the afternoon.
A music session, perhaps a quiz or a visit to historic and archaeological sites or other activities may take place on the day. At 4:30 pm, the ferry leaves Cape Clear for Baltimore. On Saturday night, O Driscoll Clan members usually spend some time chatting with new friends, making contacts and perhaps discussing their common O Driscoll genealogy and heritage. It is also a time for engaging with the local community and relaxing in comfort at local restaurants and pubs!

West Cork Runners Retreat
Need an island escape to look forward to this summer? A little reminder that this is the last week to avail of early bird pricing on our two exciting new running retreats in West Cork. Be sure to register your interest this week before prices increase. A few places left on both July and August dates.
We will have two retreats (July and August) this summer 2022 at this fabulous venue.
- July :Monday 25th – Thursday 28th
- Aug :Monday 15th – Thursday 18th
After an amazing retreat in West Cork in 2019 pre covid, we are excited to return again now to the beautiful Beara Peninsula in 2022. This year we have a new exciting venue as our base on the glorious Bere Island. We will spend our 4 day (3 night) escapes at the spectacular Wild Atlantic Glamping.
A true escape – the views don’t get any more spectacular than here.
What will we be doing?
From a running perspective, the focus will be on enjoyment of our running, taking some time to focus on mindful running, technique, mobility, injury prevention and planning for our running future. There is no pressure to run fast or run far! In fact, we want you to leave feeling refreshed rather than tired.
Our summer escapes are suitable for anyone who can run 5k between 25 and 35 minutes and possibly have run 10k in the past. Any longer runs we do on the escape will have plenty breaks along the way.
Mary will be leading all these running getaways and you may also get to meet some more of our coaches along the way! More about Mary’s coaching.
Book your place: Please email Mary if you are keen to book in with your accommodation preference, any dietary requirements and a little info about the running you currently do.
About
Mary founded ForgetTheGym 15 years ago when she left her ‘proper job’ to follow her passion for moving outdoors. A relative late comer to fitness, Mary understands what it’s like not to feel ‘sporty’ and loves building confidence in new runners and helping people reach their running goals.
Mary is the author of the book ‘Get Running’ published in 2019 by Gill Books. She is a regular columnist with The Irish Times and a frequent voice on radio, television and print (See latest media). She has plenty practise on the roads herself having completed over 45 marathons and ultramarathons.
