Join local guides for a walk and lunch on gorgeous Cape Clear Island in West Cork!
Archaeologist and local historian Diarmuid Ó Driscéoil and biologiest Dr. Geoff Oliver will lead you on an information-packed walking tour of Cape Clear Island. Visit Mara Farm, a working farm where you can see native Irish breeds of cattle, ponies and pigs. You will also see free-range ducks, hens and guinea fowl. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea and a freshly baked scone while watching a fascinating demonstration by a local farmer who will show you the wool-making process from sheep to garment.
From there, we’ll walk to the Cape Clear Heritage Centre (there is the option of a bus transfer for this leg of our trip) to view the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse Multimedia Exhibition along with exhibitions of island history, shipwrecks, archaeology, signal towers and telegraphs, placenames and much more.
We’ll stroll down the hill to Seán Rua’s restaurant at Cape Clear’s north harbour for lunch. Enjoy a plate of West Cork seafood chowder served with kelp bread, followed by a bowl of icecream made to a West Cork recipe which includes handpicked sea grass and bladderwrack – delicious!
