Exploring Drawing is a course about freedom of expression using a wide variety of marks!
The cries of “I can’t draw!” are challenged during this long weekend residential art course, where participants discover that exploring drawing does not just mean using a pencil. Everyone has an untapped ability to draw expressively through a wide variety of mark-making. The weekend will also include direct teaching and demonstration of some techniques and theoretical principles that can be readily applied to one’s own work. The glorious landscape and coastline of Sherkin Island provide the perfect subject matter to go out and experiment with these skills.
There will be opportunities to share and reflect, or space to experiment with materials and engage in personal research into this fascinating area that is so much more than just lines.
The groups are deliberately kept very small, with a maximum of 8 people, to promote a more intimate group dynamic and allow for more extensive individual tuition as appropriate.
The weekend begins on Friday evening, when participants come together for supper at North Shore and get to know each other over the delicious food prepared by Kathy & Mike. The work then begins on Saturday morning , after a fabulous breakfast, meeting in the workroom at about 9.45am. The exact structure of each day will be influenced by the weather, to ensure that participants can take best advantage of staying in this amazing setting, but the day will be punctuated by lunch and tea/coffee breaks, so there is no fear of anyone going hungry or thirsty. The ‘official’ working day usually ends at about 4pm, but everyone gathers later for pre-supper drinks, to reflect on the day, chat, look at art books and marvel at the stunning sunsets for which North Shore is so well-known.
The weekend draws to a close on Monday afternoon.
