The Islander’s Rest is located on West Cork’s Sherkin Island, only ten minutes by ferry from the fishing village of Baltimore
The regular ferry service means you can easily use “The Islander’s Rest Guesthouse” as a base to explore Sherkin Island and West Cork as a whole.
Relax and enjoy the hospitality of Murphy’s Pub which serves fresh food daily and local seafood is a specialty. The pub at The Islander’s Rest is one of the island’s informal social meeting places, where craic, conversation and comfort go hand in hand with the West Cork tradition of music and song.
Attractions include our two fully-licensed marine rib boats for whale and dolphin watching and sea trips. We can provide you with a day’s yachting or sea angling with experienced fully qualified skippers. For land lovers, nature trailing and scenic walks where you can discover the unique flora and fauna of Sherkin Island.
A major attraction for boating enthusiasts is the Seahorse Marina at Dún-na-Long Castle, just 50 yards from “The Islander’s Rest Guesthouse”.
This facility is available from mid-April to mid-September (weather permitting). It provides facilities for the seafarer, which include mooring, electricity and water, food and refreshment at Murphy’s Pub.
Sherkin Island is just three miles long, one mile wide and has a stunning natural beauty and variety of landscape, which is both tranquil and breathtaking.
You can choose from Sherkin’s three sandy beaches – Trabawn, Cow Strand or the largest, Silver Strand. All are safe for bathing and ideal for children and families. Alternatively, take a stroll along quiet leafy lanes or explore the old lighthouse and the ruined Franciscan Abbey by the pier.

At roundabout at Lidl take the 2nd exit onto Baltimore Road - R595 (signposted Baltimore). Continue forward on the R595 entering Baltimore village. Drive down towards the pier and ferry carpark.Leave your car in the free car park and take the ferry to Sherkin Island.Ferries sail daily from Baltimore, all year-round. Sailings take 10 minutes.|
